Foreign nationals intending to perform paid employment in Mozambique require a work visa or residence permit with work authorization. Tourist visa holders cannot legally work.
The Mozambican employer must demonstrate the position cannot be filled locally and meet registration obligations with authorities. Foreign companies establishing branches or joint ventures must be legally registered in Mozambique.
The process may take 4–12 weeks depending on document completeness and sector. Plan well ahead of your intended start date.
Foreign work authorization is handled by MITESS (mitess.gov.mz), coordinated with SENAMI for DIRE. Employers must demonstrate need and legal registration.
