What is a residence permit?

The residence authorization (DIRE — Foreign Identification and Residence Document) allows foreign nationals to remain legally in Mozambique for periods beyond short-stay visas. It is granted based on a specific purpose: employment, investment, family reunification, study, or other categories provided by law.

It typically requires initial entry on a long-stay visa (category D) and conversion through Migration Services within the legal timeframe after arrival.
