Investor Visa for Mozambique

Foreign nationals intending to invest and manage commercial activity in Mozambique may apply for an investor visa or residence authorization for business purposes. This applies to shareholders, directors, and investors who actively participate in a legally registered business in the country.

The investment must be linked to an entity legally established in Mozambique — a limited liability company (Lda), public company (SA), or branch of a foreign company, depending on the sector and amount involved.

Applications begin at a Mozambican consulate or embassy in the country of origin, or through Migration Services after legal entry. Prior registration with APIEX (Investment and Export Promotion Agency) or the relevant sector regulator may be required.

After initial approval, the investor obtains an entry visa (category D) and subsequently a residence permit (DIRE) upon proof of effective investment and compliance with tax and labour obligations.

The process may take 8–16 weeks depending on project complexity, sector (energy, tourism, agriculture, etc.), and document completeness. The residence authorization is typically renewable annually while the investment remains active.
