Mozambique has a free or low-cost public health service with limited capacity in cities and even more restricted access inland. Urban families combine the public service with private clinics and health insurance.
Maputo has the best private options (Clínica da Sommerschield, Hospital Privado, Clínica SAD, among others). Beira and Nampula have more modest facilities; evacuation to an international medical centre may be needed for serious cases.
Private consultations in Maputo can cost from tens to hundreds of USD; hospitalization and surgery often require upfront payment or insurer guarantee.
