City profile
Beira is Mozambique's second-largest city and main central port, with about 500,000 inhabitants. A logistics hub for Zimbabwe, Malawi, and inland Mozambique; port, agricultural, and NGO sectors employ many expatriates.
Located on a low coastal plain, Beira is vulnerable to cyclones and flooding (Idai 2019 left lasting marks). Infrastructure has been strengthened but emergency preparedness remains essential.
