Most visitors need electronic travel authorisation or a visa before departure. Confirm the correct category (tourism, business, transit) with the Embassy or Consulate of Mozambique in your country of origin, or through the National Migration Service (SENAMI) eVisa platform when applying online. Keep digital proof and a printout.
Mozambique is large. For a first 10–14 day trip, pair Maputo with one beach hub (Tofo/Inhambane or Vilankulo/Bazaruto) or focus north (Pemba/Quirimbas). Overland legs eat days quickly.
Domestic flights connect Maputo to Beira, Nampula, and Pemba; book early. Between cities, chapas and buses are slow; car hire needs attention to road conditions and insurance.
