Travel Advisory Update — May 2026

INATUR guidance and updated border procedures for visitors entering via South Africa, Tanzania, and other regional corridors.

Updated: May 2026

Official tourism information sources

The National Tourism Institute (INATUR) publishes visitor guidance at inatur.gov.mz and on visitmozambique.gov.mz, including destinations, events, and seasonal recommendations.

Before travelling, check both sites to confirm updated entry, health, and in-country best practices.

Border entry with printed eVisa or eTA

Since the relaunch of evisa.gov.mz, migration services recommend that travellers present a printed copy of the approved electronic authorization or eVisa, in addition to a biometric passport.

At land borders with South Africa (Ressano Garcia, Namaacha) and Tanzania (Negomano, Unity), processing times vary with traffic volume. Avoid peak hours when possible and keep proof of accommodation and return travel ready.

  • Valid passport (minimum 6 months)
  • Approved eVisa/eTA — digital and printed copy
  • Return or onward travel ticket
  • Proof of accommodation or invitation letter

Health: yellow fever and general precautions

Travellers arriving from countries with yellow fever transmission risk must present a valid international vaccination certificate. Mozambique requires this proof in line with applicable WHO regional regulations.

Malaria prophylaxis is also recommended in endemic areas, along with travel insurance covering medical care and repatriation, and bottled or treated water.

Regional tips for May 2026

The dry season in the south and centre favours visits to the Maputo coast, Inhambane, and historic towns. In the north, confirm road conditions and domestic flights in advance.

Follow local guidance on areas to avoid, especially in provinces with security advisories. Register with your embassy if staying long periods or travelling off main tourist routes.

Best practices during your stay

Use licensed tour operators, store document copies in the cloud, and keep emergency contacts handy. Metical payments are preferred in local commerce; cards are accepted at hotels and larger city establishments.

This advisory is for information only and does not replace consular or professional medical advice. Always confirm requirements before departure.
