Mozambique Visa Policy Update 2026

The national eVisa and eTA platform relaunched in February 2026 — what visitors and businesses need to know before travelling.

Updated: May 2026

Relaunch of the evisa.gov.mz platform

On 11 February 2026, the National Migration Service (SENAMI) relaunched the official electronic travel authorization and eVisa platform at evisa.gov.mz. The system replaces earlier fragmented workflows and centralizes applications for most international visitors.

VFS Global provides operational support for application processing and international payment handling, aligning Mozambique with practices used in other regional destinations.

eTA vs eVisa — which option to choose?

The eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) is for short tourist or business stays by travellers from eligible countries. The eVisa covers additional categories, including longer stays or purposes that require supplementary documentation.

Before paying, confirm the correct category for your trip on the official portal. Applying under the wrong category can delay entry at the border.

  • eTA: short tourism or business stays (where eligible)
  • eVisa: broader categories with specific document requirements
  • Both require a valid passport and accurate travel details

Fees and nationality eligibility

The platform covers citizens of approximately 183 countries and territories. Published fees include roughly USD 48 for eTA and roughly USD 190 for eVisa, subject to confirmation at application time and any processing charges.

SADC nationalities and other bilateral arrangements may follow different rules. Always check the updated list on the portal before planning travel.

Practical tips for May 2026

Apply at least two to three weeks ahead during peak season. Keep the electronic confirmation and carry a printed copy for presentation at the border, as advised by migration services.

Ensure your passport has at least six months validity and blank pages for stamps. Vaccination requirements — including yellow fever for travellers from endemic areas — remain applicable.

Impact for investors and business travellers

Companies with international teams should update internal travel policies: centralize requests via evisa.gov.mz, assign a compliance lead, and archive approvals for audit purposes.

This article is for information only. Rules and fees may be changed by SENAMI — always confirm on the official portal before booking tickets or travel commitments.
